I was raised in a Reformed church but much of the teaching was more Armenian in nature (strange but true). I was not bludgeoned by 5-point Calvinism until I found myself in a church that was taken over by a YRR "new Calvinist" a couple of years ago. There is definitely a difference in substance between "New Calvinism" and the Reformed Church.Keithnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5021346565171482910.post-51605849744084501852013-12-07T08:19:57.670-05:002013-12-07T08:19:57.670-05:00I don't find that Arminianism is taught very m...I don't find that Arminianism is taught very much in churches, so no. The problem is that Semipelagianism is much more common. So I think this is an incorrect look at the theological condition of evangelical church. True Arminianism teaching will not lead to this. But it does seem to me that the term is used beyond the simple sense of contradiction, especially by Van Til enthusiasts. Of course, I like presuppositional apologetics, if done properly. Calvinism if consistent is not contradictory, which is a start; but lack of inconsistency is not final proof.

I agree that complaints against Arminianism based on its inconsistency with Calvinism is risible.

On character, this is important as we need to look for good fruit. Good fruit coming from good trees. In terms of listening to others we need to distinguish whether we are trying to teach or trying to learn, trying to convince or being convinced. It is profitable for teachers to speak well so as to maximise that others may listen to us; still as listeners we should be cautious against rejecting something because the presentation lacks grace: If I speak truth I should speak it in love; if I hear truth I should prefer the wounds of a friend over the kisses of the enemy.bethyadahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08990677679970591625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5021346565171482910.post-68449583245888906112013-06-11T09:46:07.998-04:002013-06-11T09:46:07.998-04:00thank you.... Their lack of a hermeneutic of humility and equation of their particular interpretation as the 'plain' teaching of scripture was enough to raise alarm bells for me when in discussions with Calvinist.

Thank you again.
DavidAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
