I ...jcf, have taken some time to get back to this.

I enjoyed your intro in the way you derived your interpretation from the underlying context. I mentioned Genesis 9 not to address your later comments about respect, I haven't thought through your application thoroughly, rather it seems that the term "image of God" appears here also (?Hebrew), not just Gen 1; thus you need to include this in your context? Your meaning in from Genesis 1 talks about image relating to sovereignty. Gen 9 seems to to be addressing a different component of imago dei?

I had taken image to mean rationality. The ability to communicate and think after God's thoughts. Others point to morality, that men have freedom to choose. You point out rulership which I agree from the context of Gen 1 is the major (? only) theme; one I had not really considered related to "image" even though I have significant thoughts about the stewardship of man. And while Gen 1 may be primary—being part of the creation narrative—I think that we may have to include Gen 9 in our understanding of "image".bethyadahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08990677679970591625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5021346565171482910.post-36627533207747276382011-05-30T23:30:04.751-04:002011-05-30T23:30:04.751-04:00I've got to give more thought on this but this...I've got to give more thought on this but this is a good post and topic. I am likely to defer to both Wesley and Arminius on this matter but I also see a strong inter-relationship with the dominion given to man and the sovereignty of God.A.M. It is sometimes a necessary evil, but it is never a good thing. This doesn't mean that I am wholesale against war or even the death penalty, but that neither are things to entered into lightly. They should only be done as necessary evils, for human life is sacred.Jc_Freak:https://www.blogger.com/profile/14780031497091443526noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5021346565171482910.post-23815392107341176172011-05-30T05:11:06.421-04:002011-05-30T05:11:06.421-04:00Excellent intro.
